Nelson Muntz Barking Moonbat Radio Update

Drudge has a sneak on the most recent radio ratings for Barely On The Air America in New York City (no story link yet). Looks like Al Franken’s boasts of a couple of weeks ago were about as substantial as his network’s finances:

MID-DAYS NYC: LIMBAUGH 4.8 SHARE [WABC] SMASHES ‘AIR AMERICA’ 1.7 SHARE [WLIB] IN ALL LISTENERS [12+]…

‘AIR AMERICA’ FADES MONTH TO MONTH: 2.2 SHARE APRIL DEBUT, 1.7 SHARE IN MAY, 1.2 SHARE IN JUNE…

Yo, Moonbats: If you can’t make it there, you can’t make it anywhere.

It’s too bad they failed so quickly. We’ll probably never be able to tell if it was related to their poor production quality or the fact that they admitted to being liberal.

For these guys to fold before the election would be an embarassment of historic proportions (and also far funnier than anything Franken has done previously…or intentionally).

  2. Marc Says:

Hey I’m hopeing they make it to Holloween. Thats the date I choose in the Wizbang Air America dead pool.

Love the new digs, I’m jealous

    For your audio entertainment:

I think they would have had a better shot in LA– NYC is only half insane, after all, as opposed to the near uniform craziness that is the bay area.

… that is, they would have if their checks hadn’t bounced higher than a kangaroo on amphetamines.

  5. Paul Says:

Moonbat radio is alive and well in San Francisco on KGO. Bernie Ward and Ray Taliafero are basically full blown America hating Marxists, and most of the other talk show hosts are suspect. The exception is Dr. Bill Wattenburg who is a brilliant scientist, engineer, and political realist.

  6. Mike Daley Says:

C’mon everyone. This was never a network or any market driven effort. Simply put, a really expensive informational. They should have hired Tony Robbins to run the thing.
Pathetic bunch of little egocentric Left coast wannabes.
    Mike

It’s not impossible that they’ll pull out, but if they don’t, it’ll just match up to my pet theory: when you don’t believe anything in particular except that the other side is evil, you aren’t very interesting.

Say what you will about Limbaugh and all those guys and I’ll probably agree with most of your complaints, but at core there are ideas he and his ilk actually believe in, that they can expound upon and explain to you at great length.

  8. John Says:

The suits at Disney may be pro-Democratic overall, but they know where the money’s comming from — Disney/ABC owns KGO in San Francisco, but they also own conservative talker KSFO, so in that market, the financial decision has been made that a liberal talk station can work.

Two years ago in New York, when Disney bought the AM 1050 station, instead of making it a counterpoint to its longtime conservative talk station WABC, it converted it into it’s New York home for ESPN Radio.

So theur bet was an all-sports station could do more in NYC for their bottom line than a liberal talk station (which it replaced on 1050, BTW). The new Arbitrons are confirming Disney made the right decision.

  9. Jon Says:

All the Air America stations will soon be switching to an all sports format. Sorry Al.

  10. Sandy P Says:

All that money which could have been spent on “the poor.”

    Tsk, tsk.

  11. Stephen Green Says:

It’s a shame, really, that Air America got pulled off the air in LA so early.

Would love to have seen them get pulled due to bad ratings, rather than to bounced checks, right in the heart of the Left Coast.

(This from a guy who used to listen to KGO every day. And Alex Bennett on Live 105. Go figure.)

  12. Mike Says:

    Crash.
    And.
    Burn.
