Hey, If Newsweek Can Spread Unsubstantiated Rumors…

I’m hearing quite a bit of chatter through the USAF contractor grapevine that Zarqawi is dead. The only reason I mention it here is, the rumor is apparently rampant at Hurlburt AFB Field, home of the Air Force Special Ops guys, some of whom would be in a position to know such things.

Take it for what you paid for it, but I certainly hope the murderous son of a bitch is assuming room temperature in Hell.

Another rumor: Kerry signed his form 180 to release his military records weeks ago, but Don Rumsfeld flushed it down the toilet. I read about it in Newsweek!

A Final Body Blow To The “Insurgents”?

First it was the elections in Iraq in January. Now, the possibility that al-Zarqawi is actually dead? Of course, when you kill one terrorist leader, another usually pops up to replace him. However, this would be a major victory and could provide the ne…

There’s only one reason any group gives out a press release regarding negative information–because the reality is worse. Zarqwai is dead. What does this mean for the insurgents? Very little. The insurgents are primarily Sunni locals. The Administration has been playing up Zarqwai for a long time in order to boost up its rationale for going into Iraq.

  18. Scott in CA Says:

I’ve been reading around today on Z’s supposed lung injury. Seems that if he was shot in the lung, he’s pretty much done for without massive antibiotics and hospitalization. The bullet probably hit a rib on the way into the lung, which means it will drag bits of bone with it, along with scraps of the cloth in his clothes, which I imagine are not too clean anyway. That drags all those germs into the lung itself. The lung collapses from the tear. Blood getting into the lungs and resulting from the tear will pool in the bottom of the lung. It’s very painful. It will likely lead to septicemia and death without treatment. I am not an MD, but this would seem to be what’s in store if the injury rumors are true. Any MD out there will correct me if I am way off base here.

No such thing,it merely proves there were allegations, not that the allegations were true.

  22. surf-actant Says:

    Rob W,
I’d be very interested in your souce for that point about the insurgents being “…primarily Sunni locals.” Everything I am reading and hearing these days is that the vast majority of them are foreigners coming in through Syria.

Do you want to knw who mutilates more Quran’s than everone else every year?

    The Governement of Saudi Arabia.

It’s illigal to bring a non-saudi published Quran into Saudi Arabia; It is also required that every Muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca( in Saudi Arabia) at least once in their life. At the airports and border crossings of Saudi Arabia, The saudi’s collect, and then destroy hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Qurans a year.

Let’s see the MSM run that story.

  43. Robin Roberts Says:

Actually, I found it amusing that Vince evidently didn’t even read the story he linked to.

By the way, Vince, the Washington Post is the same company as Newsweek … which is probably why they cut out of the story what everyone else has been printing – that the allegation is withdrawn by the one who made it.

    Very Interesting Rumor

  45. Janus Daniels Says:

Once again, from curiosity: given all the reports of Koran abuse, going back at least two years (also torture, murder, etc. of innocent people illegally imprisoned) what would it take for you to admit it? The reports come from many sources besides the percentage of prisoners actually guilty of anything, let alone the smaller percentage of those who ever had anything to do with AQ. Personally, I don’t care; flags, books, etc. have no value except as symbols, so no meaning beside human life. I do care about having our troops die for nothing but Halliburton, and kill tens of thousands of innocent people for any reason.

  46. Mike G in San Diego Says:

Janus Daniels, given all the reports of unidentified flying objects, going back at least five decades (also landings and abductions, anal probes, etc. of innocent people) what would it take for you to admit that flying saucers from other planets are real? There is far more evidence for this, and many more first-person, on-the-record testimonies from reputable people, than for the reports of Koran abuse and torture. And if you *don’t* believe in flying saucers, then why the convenient difference in standards of proof?

  47. kenny mac Says:

LOL. Mike G, I think you just sank his battleship.

  48. Janus Daniels Says:

I’ll start believing your “landings and abductions, anal probes, etc. of innocent people” when I have corroboration, without contact between witnesses, for the same incident, photographs, confessions, and multiple articles in WSJ and other credible sources. That answers your question. May I have an answer to mine?

  50. CSM Thomas A. Teel (USA Retired) Says:

    Will,
My sources tell me he is not dead, however, he was wounded. He is currently recovering from his wounds in a country very close to Iraq. The information I have is that it was a lung/upper chest type wound. The U.S. uses full metal jacket ammo for our rifles so if the projectile does not hit bone/cartilage there is a chance that the round went through clean and not doing as much damage as if it hit something. More to follow.

  51. Beck Says:

A co-worker of mine found himself playing poker at the Borgata with a guy who works in Air Force intelligence. When the subject of Zarqawi came up, the AF guy said, “Oh, yeah, you’ll be hearing more about that soon.”

How’s that for an unsubstantiated rumor?
